Sustainability: Keeping it Local

We are fully dedicated to doing the right thing for our customers, neighborhood and world, even though it is not always the easiest option in the short run. We believe that everything we do makes a difference and through these simple choices we can make the world a little bit better. Here are a some of the ways we are doing this:

We start every morning with a daily delivery of high quality bread with no preservative from Iggy’s, an amazing bakery located in North Cambridge. We serve our sandwiches on fresh rye, whole wheat, ciabatta or bagels!

We currently receive all of our pastries from Jenny at Hippie Cakes, a local baker from Concord, NH. She bakes an assortment of all vegan muffins, scones, whoopie pies, cookies, cupcakes, brownies and more…Mmmm! She even bakes gluten free options that are just as delicious.

We have partnered with Drumlin Farms to have locally grown veggies. The produce we are able to get is highly dependent on the season and availability. We do our best to get fresh, local and organic produce. Sometimes this is not always possible, but we do everything we can.

Most of our materials in the cafe are reusable, recyclable, or compostable, including our take out containers. We even go as far as using real plates for our to-go salads! We strive to reduce waste as much as we humanly can. Feel free to ask the staff what you can compost if you aren’t sure – but the answer will be almost everything!

Behind the counter we have created a community of awesome people who love to work in this cafe. Some of us are vegan, some of us are vegetarian, and some of us are foodies, but we all of us are always learning and having a great time doing so. We work hard to do the right thing and to make sure you have a wonderful experience each and every time you visit us here at VO2.
